Third Grade Curriculum at a Glance

Religion:

The Parish, the Mass, Marks of the Church, Bible, Liturgical Seasons, Saints, Prayer

 

Language Arts:

Six major themes for reading which includes composition, grammar, punctuation, spelling, poetry, and various other language arts skills.  Review of handwriting: manuscript and cursive.

 

Math:

Addition, subtraction with regrouping, geometry, multiplication, division, graphing, time, and measurement.

 

Social Studies:

Geography, Map Skills, Community and African-American History.

 

Science:

Energy, Light, Sound, Biomes, Ecology and Earth's Resources.

 

Fourth Grade Curriculum at a Glance

Religion:

10 Commandments, Virtues, Memorare, Acts of Faith, Hope, Love, Mysteries of the Rosary and Mass liturgies.

 

Language Arts:

Reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, creative writing, spelling, journal writing and literature circles.

 

Math:

Review addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, problem solving, whole number operations, geometry, graphs, time, data, fractions, and decimals.

 

Social Studies:

Pennsylvania history and geography and US regions

 

Science:

Physical: classifying matter, motion, forces, electricity, magnetism.

Earth science: weather.

Life science: simple vertebrates and invertebrates.

 

Fifth Grade Curriculum at a Glance

Religion: 

The Sacraments, Liturgical Year, the Mass, and Prayers.

 

Language Arts: 

Six themes of integrated language arts including:  Reading comprehension and vocabulary, spelling, grammar, creative writing and journal writing, book report projects, independent reading, and handwriting.

 

Science: 

Physical Science: Matter, motion.

Earth Science: Changing Earth, Solar System.

Life Science:  Plants, Digestive system, circulatory system, respiratory system, excretory system, endocrine system, skin system, and embryology.

 

Math: 

Numbers and Operations, measurement, geometry, algebra concepts, data analysis and probability, mental math, drill, and problem solving.

 

Social Studies: 

US History:  Migration to the Americas to End of Reconstruction, US Geography, and Current Events.
